5 THINGS THAT MAKE A GREAT CHRISTMAS PARTY

TLDR: A great Christmas party comes down to thoughtful planning: plenty of food and drink, a festive theme, added touches that show effort, easy logistics - and, most importantly, a fun activity to bring everyone together. From seasonal scavenger hunts to interactive entertainment, Big Smoke Events helps turn ordinary work parties into memorable, joy-filled celebrations.

December has hit, and that can only mean one thing. It’s the party season! You can feel the festivities starting to begin, the Advent calendars are out, the Christmas trees are decorated, and the party invitations are piling up. It really ‘tis the season to be jolly, and we love it.
So, with the party season upon us, it got the Big Smoke Events thinking. What really makes a good Christmas party? Because let’s face it, we have all been to plenty that have been average, where you left early, giving a pathetic excuse like “my dog’s sick”, just so you didn’t have to take your turn on the karaoke machine.
Every December, we bring our corporate team-building events to offices across London. And take colleagues into the streets with our scavenger hunt. So we’ve seen a lot of Christmas work parties. The good. The bad. And, yes, the ugly.
So, we have established 5 things that make a GREAT Christmas party, and you should definitely follow a few.
Number 1 – PLENTY of Food and Drink (and throw some alcohol in there too).
There is nothing worse than arriving at a party, and all the food has gone, and there is barely any alcohol left! Over order if the party is for a large group, and any leftover food can be office treats on Monday … leftover alcohol will work a treat for those ‘welcome back’ sessions in the New Year.
Number 2 – Christmas Theme
It only comes around once a year, and secretly, people love digging out their Christmas jumpers and Santa outfits. Load up everyone’s favourite Christmas songs and enough mince pies for everyone, it definitely adds to the festive fun. Oh, one big word of advice … I would avoid the mistletoe.
Number 3 – Add an extra touch of sparkle
When you put the effort in, people will notice and trust me; it will be worth it. Hiring a photographer, dressing up outfits, making goodie bags, or even simple things like having a cloak room will make all the difference and really make your Christmas party great.
Number 4 – Plan transportation
This might seem simple or obvious to some, but it is often forgotten. Making your Christmas party easy for your guests really is the fire on top of the Christmas pudding. It makes everyone’s day or night much easier, reducing any stress for things like parking or getting lost, certainly, something to include.
Number 5 – Always include a fun activity
These really get the party started and bring everyone together for some festive fun. It doesn’t matter what entertainment you’ve got; it’s always better to have something planned than nothing at all. It will be something to talk about the next day and will always put a smile on your guests’ faces. So, whether you choose one of our Christmas-filled scavenger hunts or a magician for your party entertainment, it will definitely make your Christmas work party a great one!
